How long does it take you to write a book? It varies. Iâm chronically ill and Iâm also on the Austim Spectrum. Both play a huge role in how quickly I can finish a book. With my obsessive nature that comes with tunnel vision thanks to Aspergerâs, I can finish a book in 24 hours, or if I allow myself to sleep, 2-3 weeks. But due to my chronic illness Iâm often lacking the amount of stamina or energy it takes to write a book. So one book can take me 2 weeks, and another can take me 3 months. What is your work schedule like when you're writing? I wake up, eat, writeâpossibly sleep. Anything in between is either something writing related, or itâs pure relaxation. I donât have any real schedule going for myself. I write when I want to write, and do anything else I need/want to do when Iâm not writing. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books? I found when writing my books, I learn a lot from my characters. What theyâre going through will sometimes be parallel to the things Iâm experiencing in my day-to-day life, whether it be intentional or not. So, as I write them experiencing certain things, it gives me a new perspectiveâone I didnât have before. It helps me learn and grow as a person. How much research is involved when writing your books? Depends. With Exit Wound, I did more research on the MCâs mother than I did my MC. I did a lot of organizing for the time-line, and a little research for factual information to make my story more believable. Other stories Iâve had I do research on cities they live in, houses theyâd be moving to, schools nearby, etc. I want to immerse myself in their lives. Do you write full-time or part-time? Full-Time. Do you write every day, 5 days a week or as and when? It varies. Some weeks I write non-stop with little sleep, while others I do nothing but sleep and very little writing when Iâm awake. Do you aim for a set amount of words/pages per day? I aim for 2,000 to 3,000 words per chapter. Sometimes I try to do that in a day, but it can get difficult. So I try to find a good stopping point if I get overwhelmed and finish the chapter at a later time. Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just see where an idea takes you? I do a little of both. Sometimes when Iâm writing a second or third draft, Iâll outline the story. Though, sometimes the story goes into places the outline didnât have in it. So I revise the outline the best I can while my characters take me where they want to go. What is the hardest thing about writing? Writing honestly about what hurts. Any tips on how to get through the dreaded writerâs block? Let it pass. You can fight it all you want and sit at the computer and stare at the blank page, OR you can go out and do something fun thatâll distract you. Get some stuff done on your to-do list, or go on an adventure. Do something you normally donât get to do because youâve been writing. I find that keeping myself busy will result in getting back into writing sooner rather than later. Do you let the book stew â leave it for a month and then come back to it to edit? Depends on which project Iâm working on! Sometimes Iâll leave it for a couple of weeks at the most. Others Iâll let sit for a good few months. What are your views on social media for marketing? Social Media is a huge outlet for authors, and without it I wouldnât have gotten my book published! Though it does have its downfalls. I think you should be able to utilize Social Media in your author platform, but make sure you use other means of marketing as well. Character Interview Did you have a happy childhood? Why/why not? Hell no. My mother was a raging alcoholic with a touch of dementia. I grew up having to fend for myself after my brother left to become a big-time musician. Growing up sucked. Biggest secret? I got drunk the night Mackynsie died because we had been fighting for months. What annoys them? Sometimes itâs as simple as the way people are breathing. She is the queen of mood-swings and hating everyone that isnât her brother. What makes them laugh? Corny jokes and horribly made punsâbut she wonât be the first to say it out loud. What trait do you find most admirable in others? Honesty â

While I was working backstage later that evening, I heard a few new guests entering the premises. One was K.L., and the other was Ella Green. Ella Green was well known for her publicity stunts and her YouTube videos. Although I had never seen one, I was pretty sure she was here to interview the band. As for K.L., he was here for the same reason he was at the diner where we had lunch: to reel me into his world. I refused, knowing that wouldnât stop him from trying again.
âFrances, can you take Ms. Green and Mr. James to the green room?â one roadie asked me. I threw the towel I was haphazardly folding to the side, and I went to guide Ella and K.L. to the green room.
When we got there Ben was celebrating something, and he wanted me to hear it. He showed me the invitation that had been waiting for them when they got here. It was for the American Music Awards in November, and when I saw that he and the band were nominated for an award, I was just as giddy with excitement as the whole lot of them. Ben and I hugged and jumped up and down, squealing in excitement.
After we came back to our senses I said, âOh, guys Ella Green and K.L are here.â The sound of Ellaâs name struck a fire in Ben. Not a good fire either.
âIs something wrong?â I asked.
Ella was suddenly screaming at Ben. I was so confused, and so when Ella kept yelling, I yelled over her.
âShut up! What the hell is going on?â I asked.
Ben waved his hand, signaling that I should leave this alone and I ignored him.
âDonât you know?â Ella said. âI wanted to date the wonderful Ben Morrison, but he refused. He refused! Like, who refuses to date me? Iâm Ella Green for Christâs sake, Iâm the motherââ
âItâs time to shut up, Ella. I can see your ego loud and clear.â She gasped at my comment, more enraged that I even spoke to her during her outburst than the fact that my brother had refused her invitation.
âWho are you? Like, what are you even doing here? You were folding towels when I came in, youâre a little good for nothingââ
It was a reflex, and I mean it when I say thisâbut I punched her in the nose. Usually Iâm pretty good at controlling my anger, and other times I donât realize how angry I am and my reflexes take over. She was wailing like a child, and holding her head back as she stumbled around as if my punch to her nose had debilitated her ability to maintain her balance.
âDammit, Frances! Do you know who she is?â Ben was yelling at me now, and I didnât know how to react. He was rushing to get towels and ice for Ella.
After a medic checked her nose and said it was fine, she was escorted off the premises, all the while shouting about how I was going to pay for this. I was like a child stuck in the time out corner when Ben came back. My arms were wrapped around myself for safety, and I hung my head in shame.
âWhat are you doing, Bea? Do you want to get us into trouble? Sheâs a YouTube star. She could easily post a rant about this and make it go viral overnight!"
It was time to prepare for the show, and I tried to leave, except Ben wouldnât stop yelling.
âFrances, if you keep screwing things up the way you are, I'm going to regret ever bringing you on this tour! How can I show the world how wonderful my sister is if she keeps acting like a whiny, spoiled brat with an uncontrollable right hook?"
I could tell Everett was about to call him out on his behavior, but I shot him a look that told him not to.
âIâm sorry, Ben, it wonât happen again. Iâll go back to folding towels.â I had never been so isolated and demeaned in my life. So much for sibling love.
- ABOUT THE AUTHOR -
My name is Alexandra Moore. Iâve been creating stories since I could talk. Iâve been putting them onto paper since I could write. Writing books is my dream and my passion, along side with rescuing African Pygmy Hedgehogs, retired race Greyhounds, French Bulldogs, and other various animals Iâm probably allergic too.
Iâm convinced Iâm the blood of the dragon, and the Mother of Dragons. When Iâm not watching GoT, Iâm watching Greyâs Anatomy (again) on Netflix, and crying over all the MerDer feels. I also spend time with my Boston Terrier Tank and my boyfriend. Both are my cuddle buddies, and Iâm afraid the dog is around more often. I donât bite (unless provoked) so feel free to tweet at me, or leave a comment on one of my InstaPics. I canât wait until my book is in print, and to share my thoughts with the rest of the world.
